Postal operators & airlines: two players who need each other

LEG-2 as a link

In 2016, during a conference in Berlin where he was invited by IATA as an expert, Luc Larrieu-Sans made the following observation: postal operators, experts in sorting and distribution, sometimes struggle to master the air transport operations. Conversely, airlines, well-versed in traditional freight rules, do not always understand the specific constraints of postal logistics.

Two industries with different logics, two complementary businesses, yet each needs the other. This insight led to the creation of LEG-2 in 2019, with a clear and ambitious mission: build the connection.

Since then, LEG-2 has brought together players from both sectors, translating the needs of one into the language of the other. More than a service provider, LEG-2 is a facilitator—delivering practical solutions that streamline data exchanges, optimize operations, and build more efficient postal logistics chains.

Why “LEG-2” ?

In the journey of an international mail shipment, there are three main stages : Collection at origin (Leg-1), international transport (Leg-2), delivery in the destination country (Leg-3).

It’s at the heart of Leg-2, between sorting centers and airlines, where most issues arise: lack of traceability, poor coordination, frequent delays. Postal operators are pushed outside their usual domain, and airlines often lack the tools to handle postal flows in the same way as standard freight.

LEG-2 was created to fill this gap.
Our role: to connect systems that don’t naturally communicate, to streamline data flows, and to ensure the reliable movement of mailbags, with traceability, compliance, and performance at the core.

The founder’s career : an expertise serving both postal operators and airlines

A career launched in civil aviation

Luc Larrieu-Sans began his career as a station manager at AOM French Airlines, overseeing ground operations in Paris CDG, Sydney, and Nassau. This experience gave him in-depth knowledge of the operational constraints in air transport.

A pioneer in international postal logistics

In 2003, he joined La Poste, where he led the international transport division. He progressively aligned mail processes with air freight practices. For 15 years, he managed an airmail transport plan of around 15,000 tonnes annually, across 160 destinations and in partnership with over 90 carriers.

A global vision for the future of mail

Active within the workgroups of the International Post Corporation (IPC), Luc contributed to the “Future of Mail by Air” (FOMBA) initiative to modernize mail flows and prepare for the rise of e-commerce. From 2017 to 2020, he represented La Poste Group at the Universal Postal Union (UPU), helping to shape industry standards.


